jasonsmith
If you register a domain name but dont yet have a web site - can you then use your domain name for email. eg If you registered "myname.com" - could you configure an email such as "john@myname.com", or must you have a web site set up first. tom_menegatos
You need a mail server and dns server. You can either use someone else's or your own. It is possible. Email is completely seperate from websites and domain names aren't specific to websites. They were around long before the www.
markw
Jason: You need to "park" your DN somewhere. Unless you have your own server, you can do this with many vendors out there. Most offer packages that include web hosting and email using your domain name. As the previous poster already indicated, you do not need a website to use your domain name but you do need a mail server. For example Yahoo does it for $14.95/month, I am sure there are others that are cheaper.
phule
Find a hosting provider. Find a good one, not one that advertises "everything for $2/mo." As with everything, quality, especially customer service, comes from companies that don't concentrate solely on rock-bottom prices. If you'd like some recommendations, drop me an email. steven_clark
Also you should check what services your registrar provides. For example DirectNIC, the guys I use, will forward an email address for my domain for free.
jwink3101
I use lunarpages for my page (<a href="http://www.photosbyjustin.com">www.PhotosByJustin.com</a>). I like them a lot. They chare 7.95 a month with 500mb space and 20 gb transfer. They also give <u>unlimited</u> email's with both POP and IMAP (plus SMTP). Many people use them and like it <p> If you want to read more about this and other good services go to <a href="http://www.10-cheapwebhosting.com">10-cheapwebhosting.com</a>. They have reviews and other stuff which makes it easy
oskar_ojala
Since when has this forum become tech support 24/7? In short: yes you can, you don't need a website to receive email.
