Sticky 28-200 mm zoom

I purchased a Nikkor 28-200 zoom from KEH. It was rated "bargain" and

when it arrived yesterday I found it, as usual, to be in perfect

optical and nearly perfect cosmetic condition. However, the zoom ring

and aperture ring are both "sticky". That is, if I turn them smartly

from end point to end point they work just fine but making small

adjustments is not smooth by any means. The zoom ring exhibits

significant friction until enough force is applied and then it moves.

The aperture ring seems to have the same amount of friction between

f-stops as it does at them. In other words, the detents are not

definate because of the amount of "stiction" between them. I realize

that this lens will not have the feel of my old AI and AIS lenses but

does this description sound typical? I'm thinking of returning the

lens and seeing if they have a better one as it's really not

comfortable to use, but if they are all like this I'll make a

different decision.

they have a great return policy. if you do not want it return it. get another if you want. i buy all my gear from KEH in bargain condition. the gear rated "bargain" are in what ui consider used but not abused condition. i have never had any problems with any of KEH stuff. soon i may try the "ugly" stuff for the realy expensive/ out of my price range lenses.

cheers
