bobatkins
Lens flare or prismatic refraction from an object on the bush.

sergey_oboguev
Some people would discount any ghost photograph as flare...
keith_van_hulle1
Remembering last month's thread like this, I'd say it's a guardian angel . . . Couldn't resist. COnsidering it's centered and looking at the chromatic distortion of the green leaves reight below the blue spot (which you can see leave detail through), I'd say flare of some type. jimvanson
Hey Moses; It's another burning bush!
brambor
Well it is not really centered. I posted the original picture with width 500pixels but it got deleted by the admin. Here is the original picture again:

beauh44
Hi Rene - is it possible that you got a drop of water (spray? fog? sweat?) on the lens? That's got me before and looks a lot like your gremlin. Best wishes . . .
brambor
If I remember it correctly it was around 9:00AM. We were at altitude of about 8000 feet and also crossing some snow fields. It is possible that I hade a water droplet on the filter but it did not show on any subsequent pictures and I took many...
carnagex_carnagex
Looks like Spook Lights, I saw something like this in Joplin MO. who knows you may have found a new sight 8^D http://www.astronomycafe.net/weird/lights/spooklights.html
bobatkins
Actually your original picture was over 300 Kbytes and that's why it was deleted! 500 pixels is fine, but the size limit is 100 Kbytes (it's in the upload box if you read the text there). The prismatic nature of the spot (goes from blue to red via the usual rainbow colors) suggest it's the result of some sort of refraction, either through a liquid (water drop) or some other transparent material. It could also be lens flare of course.
keith_van_hulle1
Which direction relative to the sun were you facing. Considering the background haze, I'd say pretty close to directly into the sun. Even w/o anything on the lens, chances are you'd have ended up with something like this anyway. richard thompson www.fotoz
Id guess at a droplet of water on the lens/filter due to the prismic nature of the defect.
brambor
I think that the sun was very high. The light was very bright throughout the day. I'm not sure which way I was facing with respect to the sun. I shot around 100 on that day. I think that the droplet of water sounds like a plausible explanation. I found the effect when I was browsing through the pictures and throwing out those that were bad. This one was about to be deleted until I found the 'UFO'. I kept it for the purpose of this post. oliver_s.
Given the shadows' direction, you were facing the sun. I, too, suspect a droplet of water or--perhaps more likely--ghosting or a reflection off a bright speck inside the lens hood. We needn't go into any spook light theories for this.
