patricks
I've been offered a NIB M7 for $1,600 (serial # 28841xx - impossible to know if it has the new MP VF or not until one inspects it). It is a considerable saving over one from US retail price, even if those come with the gorgeous Passport warranty. What is the community's take on direct import? (comes with Leica International warranty papers)? Paying $2,400 at a Leica Day Special is the other option...
harry_soletsky1
2,885,xxx seems to be when the new MP type finder was installed but that's not 100% clear.
m_.
If you can get it for sure and the camera is new, I will go for it. Leica is Leica - there isn't such thing call "grey market" for a new M7.
gary e
That's a great price for a Leica MP even without the Passport Warranty. But I don't recall when the DM was less than the US dollar to give such a deal. As far as I know, you have to send it back to Leica Germany for any warrantee work which is only covered for a year. mrbutterworth
From who? Can anyone get this deal?
furcafe
If the seller is legit, then you're basically getting a gray market M7 for $1600 (currently $2184 @ Delta Int'l). Sounds like a great deal, but you know what they say: "if it sounds too good to be true . . ."
patricks
Chris, I echo your concern... The seller offered me send me the product first to inspect it, then I could pay for it... (which baffles me again). He had a black MP .72 available for $2K as well, but my heart is set on a M7.
stephen_w.
Go for it. Nothing to lose.
fabio_scaglione1
Be sure is an honest man. If someone offer you to pay after receive the item and perhaps only wants the cost shipment, surely will never send you anything.fabio
skip_williams
I'd research the reputation of the seller as job-one. $1600 is too good to be true for a MIB M7 from a commercial seller (perhaps OK from an individual who is in-need). I am especially nervous about the idea of shipping it to you prior to payment.
patricks
Yeah, it sounds fishy, doesn't it?
peter_n1664876959
It could have "fallen off the back of a lorry". Run the serial number through Leica's Missing Leicas page. You'll get an immediate email response. Worth doing with any Leica piece that you are thinking of buying.
patrick_jelliffe
Patrick, I thought you were in the market for a mechanical SLR??? Ritalin works wonders for curbing the overactive consumer... ;^)
shambrick007
Ok Patrick! Just for the fun of it, you owe us a list of all the Leica M gear that you've bought and sold since you've been using the system ;-)
ralph_barker
Patrick, I'll be moving and changing my name next week, but if you hurry, you can send me $50 to cover shipping and handling, and I'll send you a new, in-box M7 for inspection. If you include a credit card number and your SSN (your bank account number will be on your check), I'll include the new 35mm Noctilux for free. ;-)
patricks
Ralph, I hear ya' on that one. I wasn't born y-day and currently work in the security industry... Did check the complete serial # against the Leica missing cameras list already - didn't come up...
al henry
Patrick be careful as I recall last year a large shipment of Leicas was stolen in France. There is a list of serial numbers somewhere on the web.
mike_scarpitti
Not legitimate. Avoid. If it's too good to be true, it isn't legit..
gerry_szarek
It feels really "HOT" to me, but if he is willing to ship it to you, try it. Be sure to use the US Mail service, mail fraud is only with the US Gov shipping, not UPS, Fedex, etc. BTW are you heading south? Gerry
dennis_pereira
There was a scam awhile ago on digital cameras where the seller would ship the camera to you and then receive the money. It turned out he was buying them with stolen credit cards from a legitimate source and having them drop shipped to the "buyer". Once the legitimate shipper realized the credit card was stolen, they could legally demand payment or return of their camera leaving the buyer out the money they had sent to the seller. Be careful
stephen_abbott2
He'll send you a $1600 item "to inspect"? If he's not a close, personal friend of yours, it's a Scam with a capital "S".
SolaresLarrave
As much as I'd like a M7... I'd rather buy it from Don Chatterton or Richard Oesterling. This one sounds a little too good to be true. In any case, how do you get offers like that? I wish I were tempted that way... But no, better not. Have fun shopping! george_b1
Patrick - If it is really "NIB" guess who will have to pay US Customs for importing the M7? IMHO, you will be an "importer," and you'll have to fork over the $$$. I'd check with the Customs folk.
stephen_w.
George, I've bought brand new gear of all kinds up to $1000 in its factory packaging from the NL, UK, and HK, and didn't pay a dime in duties. Now, I don't know if the Customs are being slack, or if it's legal if the items are not for resale and are for personal use. Steve
patricks
FYI, the camera is already in the States. They guys in NY selling Leica's he imports. Still far from a 'done deal'
