brian_keller
Hello: I'm looking to purchase a good used Carl Zeiss 150mm portrait lens --- the f/4 Sonnar. My questions are this - does the number on the lens mean anything (ie. does it specify its date ex. Nr 6356705)? I notice the newer lens' are CFI T* - what does the I stand for? What flavours does this lens come in ie. C, CT*, CF T*, CFI T* ??? Thanks for any advice on buying tips for this specific lens. Bri
Aoresteen
The lens serial numbers don't mean anything by themselves. You have to look them up. the 635 xxxx group was made in 1981 per Nordin. Given the date yours is C lens, black, T*. The 150 CF lenses were introduced in 1982. Opticly this is a great lens. But C lens parts are drying up. Prontor is no longer make\ing certian C Compur shutter parts (PC contacts is one). If you buy it get it serveiced ASAP and have all worn parts replaced now. I just had a 1959 80mm C overhauled and my 1969 250mm C was serviced two years ago.
