Beattie Screen on F100

Hi,

I have the F100 and am considering whether a Beattie screen (the one

with the diagonal split-image) is a helpful screen to use for manual

focussing. However, I understand that slight exposure compensation

is required. I've also heard somewhere that Beattie screens are not

as good as the original Nikon's (in what ways I do not know) and that

the former are cheaply made.

If you've had any experiences with the above combi, please let me

know.

Thanks in advance,

Al

Al, I put a Beattie grid in one F100 and the Nikon grid in the other. I can't seem to tell the difference. Yes, the split screen focus should be handy for manual focussing. I got the diagonal split for both. I am thinking maybe the vertical might work better.

I got the horizontal split screen. MF focusing works much more easily, and I like to have independant confirmation of AF. I didn't bother reading the instructions, but I ended up dialing in a +1/3 stop compensation. The centre split image was not exactly in the centre of the screen. However, I hate the name Beattie and the way they say their screens are brighter, when I don't really care. They come with a wierd red tweezer thing which I've been chewing and sticking up my nose since I couldn't figure out what it was *really* for.
