brian_keller
I'm interested in perhaps buying an 8mm extension tube for my Hassy 500c/m with 80mm Planar lens. I take mainly portraiture. Can someone send me or direct me to images taken with this combination or similar combination so I get a feel for what this extension tube will do for me. I want to forgo spending 1K on a 150mm lens and thought I could get a little closer this way. Will I be physically too close to my subject with the 8mm tube? Thanks for any help on this. rick_campbell
You'll be able to focus closer but the perspective will be very poor. Whatever is closest to the camera will appear too big such as noses or ears. The reason people use a longer lens for portraits is because, by being further away, the perspective of the face and body is more pleasing. If you don't want to spend the money for a 150mm (which takes wonderful portraits) then get a 2x tele-extender. There are some cheap ones out there. cosmo_genovese
These guys at http://www.streetstudio.com/ use vintage Hasselblads and combinations of the 80mm with the 8- and 10mm extension tubes. Check out their site; they've got a lot of good portraiture.
