mark_sampson
I know "vade mecum" means "take me with you" in Latin. And that it's a brand of toothpaste. But It seems that there's a lens refernce book by that name. Any idea where I can find a copy?
michael_mensik
Hi Mark, <br> I suppose you mean rather <a href="http://www.bobwheeler.com/">Bob Wheeler's</a> PalmOS application named that way. VadeMecum provides you with plenty of useful formulas as of DOF, hyperfocal distance, shift/tilt etc.etc. I use it now and then.<br> On his site there are some donwloadable articles regarding photographic optics, too.<br> Michael
richard_ilomaki
Vade Mecum was a Victorian English term for a handbook, that you would take with you, say of travel to Exotic Places or a vade mecum of railroads, or of lenses, sort of a Junior Woodchuck's Guide, or a Lonely Planet guidebook, oe Anchell's Photo Chemistry cookbook, or the Kodak darkroom Guide. chauncey_walden
Hi Mark, I think this may be the one you are asking about. It's quite a reference. I got my copy from England but someone posted this the other day: http://members.aol.com/oct0969/sell.htm
arne_croell
You're talking about "A lens collectors Vade Mecum". It is a British publication on CD-ROM. One source is here: http://www.mwclassic.com/acatalog/MW_Classic_Cameras_VADEMECUM_CD_ROM_122.html

ernest_purdum
Oops! Where did that "e" in "wwew" come from? You could also search by "700 pages", I think.
tim_hicks
Please note that the Lens Collectors Vade Mecum CD is compiled and maintained by Dr. Neill Wright here in the UK as a labour of love and he does not profit personally by it. At least some of the sellers do donate a proportion of the purchase price to a nominated Hospice charity at Neill's request, as the research work was originally started by a friend of his, Matt Wilkinson, who lost the battle with cancer. The CD is a unique database of lens information for all types of photographic lenses and it is especially usefull to large format users who want to identify older lenses. Neill is a very modest but extremely knowledgeable chap who has been most helpful to many MPP camera users via the MPP Users Club that he also helps to run. For those of you not familiar with the MPP MicroTechnical and MicroPress and Monorail, these are one of the more common used option in the UK for someone starting out in large format photography. If you beg borrow or steal a copy of this excellent database, please make a small donation to your local Hospice charity or Cancer charity. patrick_gainer
Vade Mecum is also the name of a book of exercises and orchestral excerpts for the oboe. Just thought you'd like to know.
