EricM
i'm taking a stab at it, but all i know is that hmi is a balast run daylight (5600k) source, and HQI is tungsten (3200)
helenbach
I thought that HQI was also a discharge lamp that requires a ballast. D type HQI is balanced for 6,000 K. I think that HMI and HQI are in the same family (with HQI tending to be at the smaller end but with an overlap up to 3,500 W?). Sports stadia etc tend to use HQI. Those lamps have a good colour rendering index. Best,Helen
