christopher perez
I will be spending two short days in Berlin, Germany. In the evening I may have some time to go shopping. Anyone have a recommendation on where to shop for used medium format equipment? What can I expect to pay for nice Rollei TLR with either Xenotar or Planar (yes, I know about and use eBay, KEH, MidWest, etc., so I'm more specifically interested in prices from Berlin :-) ? h._hillebrand
Maybe you want to have a look at this dealer. I think this is one of the "big ones" with some professional gear - I don't know if they have classic TLRs as well. They are somewhere near Kurfürstendamm. http://www.wuestefeld.com/index_englisch.htm However, if you are going to shop in the evening, keep in mind that (almost) all shops in Germany must close at 8 pm. harry_zet
i agree with wüstefeld: they had a mint 3,5 f for 990 euro in may - much overpriced. but they also ha a contarex se with planar and electric eye - the first i ever saw. i would say, save your time go to oranienburgerstraße (where the synagoge is) and have a cappucchino in one of the great cafes there (nice beautiful people) then walk along to oranienburgerstrasse 269 and visit the club der polnischen versager (club of the polish loosers) or the famous cafe burger, run by a russian author - it will be the best party in your life:-))
nicholas_s._marco
During a visit to Munich two weeks ago I inquired in three reputable used-camera shops regarding Rollei TLR's, Zeiss Ikons, Bessa II's and Kodak Retina's, and in all cases the prices were about 30% higher than USA prices for comparable cameras (from dealers like Pacific Rim, KEH, etc). Seems that the pricing all over Germany is similar for good quality used camera equipment, especially the German ones. So, although I'm sure you'll see some nice equipment, the prices are not likely to be favorable. NSM
kaiblanke
Nicholas, <p> I am from Munich and especially the Rollei prices I know of are quite ok, especially for the condition these cameras are in. You currently pay about EUR 450-500 for a 2.8C or a 3.5E, about 200 more for a 2.8E or 3.5F model and up to 1200 for a 3.5F and only a bit more for FX and GX models, all depending on the condition (Prices are for EXC++ models). User ones are cheaper as are 3.5 models without a meter (about 350-400). If you buy from a dealer remember that you also always have a guarantee even for used items as there was a new law about 2 years ago. I think the prices in Munich and Berlin will not differ much. For shops you may also ask on the Leica Forum, two or three people from berlin are quite active there.
kornelius_j._fleischer
Foto Haussmann, Siemensdamm 43 Foto Braune, Karl-Marx-Strasse 7, www.fotobraune.de Foto Wuestefeld, Grolmannstrasse 36 (near Kurfuerstendamm), and Foto Wuestefeld, Schlossstrasse 96 These are the ones I have been at, so far. You can find more in the Berlin yellow pages under "Fotoapparate und Fotozubehoer" once you are in Berlin. My first choice would be Wuestefeld Grolmannstrasse, then Foto Braune. Good luck!
