zoeica images
I finally got to try out the new 24-120 Nikkor VR lens. I'll try to post some images this week. I can say build quality is nice, the zoom is tight, but not too tight. Focus is very quiet.
chuck
Where? Where?
zoeica images
Way down yonder in New Orleans. I'm 3 ft from the lens as I write.
chuck
And 6 feet below sea level, no doubt. :-) How much did you pay for it?
zoeica images
$589.95 which is only $20 more than B&H's price, but they ain't got any! Make that about 11 ft below sealevel.
david_h._hartman
Does it have an aperture control ring? Just kidding!
zoeica images
No, but it comes in a box with a flower................like hood. :)
jason michael
It also comes with one of the new fancy lens caps... Seriously though, I love shooting with this lens it is an absolute pleasure to use. The optical verdict is still being decided though the Velvia and Provia I recently shot through it look good though I still need to see massive enlargements. Cheers,
viktor s.
Is this the same optical formula or configuration as the original 24-120 zoom?
ShunCheung
Since the new lens is a VR, it cannot possibly have the same optical formula as the previous non-VR version. You have to add a few additional elements to make VR work; i.e. to counteract vibration.
chuck
It also seems to be physically significantly longer than the old lens, despite similar number of elements and groups.
zoeica images
Photos of the lens. I'm not sure it's really longer than the first 24-120. Same 72mm filter if I'm correct.

fri www.splitlife.com
has anyone compared this lens to the 24-85 AFS/ED offering? I'm trying to decide between this and a convertor, or the 24-85 and the cheaper 80-300... for shooting mix of landscapes and snowsports (usually in bright light). ta
