mike_troxell2
After around 13 years with a 4x5 I'm thinking seriously about moving to 8x10 or 11x14. I want to start making contact prints instead of enlarging. I thought about getting an 8x10 at first but since nearly all of my enlargements from 4x5's are 11x14, I would also like to look at a few 11x14 cameras. Before I buy anything, I would like to rent an 8x10 or 11x14 and work with it for a few days to a week. I live about 2 hours from Atlanta, GA and was wandering if anyone knew of a place in Atlanta where I could rent an 8x10 or 11x14?
ellis_vener_photography
PPR on 11th street might have an 8"x10' for rent, but frankly I have never asked. Give them a call at (404) 885 -1885.
james_driscoll2
Don't forget, you can also rent via NYC and have it shipped to you. When I worked as a rental agent at Fotocare in NYC, I used to rent to people all over the country and even the world. Our policy, was all "shipped" orders went out for a minumum of a week. A week in most rental houses = 3 billing days and a month = 9 billing days. To spell it out even more if said item is $25 a day it costs $75 to rent it for 7 days, and $225 to rent for 30 days. Fotocare has the following 8x10 cameras- Sinar F2 - $35 day, Sinar P2- $110 day, Toyo G- $45 day, and a Toyo M field- $50 day. They have an 11x14 custom conversion kit for the sinar P2 that is astronomically expensive to rent- it only went out once and it was something like $225 a day with 4 holders (on top of the $110 a day for the P2). You would probably have to speak with Jeff Hirsch (the owner) first if you wanted to rent that. Also, Fotocare is a little more flexible than most rental houses- if you explain BEFORE the item is shipped that you will be using it for 7 days but it will "out" for 10 days- they will only charge you for a week- not a week and 3 days. You must be clear about this when you place your order. www.fotocare.com, 212-741-2990
ellis_vener_photography
Also Quality Camera Company might have a selection of 8"x 10" (and maybe larger) cameras to look at, and Jeff Wheeler and his staff really know their cameras but they do not rent equipment.
