carlomarks
Anybody have a lens cap for Olympus RC to sell? been having trouble getting one. Cheers
lex_jenkins
Are you looking for an original Olympus brand lens cap or just something to protect the lens? If the latter, I used the cap off a container of fish food for my 35RC. Worked fine. The blue was chic.
eric friedemann
The RC has a 43.5mm thread size. A 43mm cap should work just fine: http://www.bugeyedigital.com/product_main/lenscap.html
carlomarks
Hehe! Fish food cap. Excellent. I would prefer an original Olympus cap though. Very anal about things like that! Cheers for the link. Will look that up.
Andrew in Austin
B&H sells either a Kaiser or Schneider slip-on 45mm i.d. lens cap for the 35RC. The 43mm style with clip on tensioners are problematic unless a Hoya filter is on the lens mount. P.S. B&H Photo's schedule is iffy in October due to numerous religious holidays. kenny_c.
Any fan of solid screw-on metal lens cap? B&H has one for 43.5mm. It looks pretty cool. I have same one for 55mm and I like it. The slip-on one will get lost easily.
Andrew in Austin
Like the clip-on lens caps, the screw-in metal lens caps will not fit an Oly 35RC unless you have a Hoya filter mounted. The Olympus filters have no front threads to grab onto. There isn't enough clearance for the serrated ring around the front element to use either the clip-on or screw mount lens caps. kenny_c.
What is so special about the 43.5mm Hoya filter comparing to regular filters? I will get a Oly 35 RC is a few days with the Oly slip-on cap but I plan to buy the screw-on metal cap. As I understand, if you can mount a filter then you can use the screw-on cap. Andrew in Austin
Try it and you'll see that there is a clearance problem with regards to non-slip on lens caps and certain filters. Certain filters, such as a polarizer and old Tiffen filters do not clear the serrated ring that surrounds the front element. This ring is used to adjust the film speed. That said, I still use a polarizer, but I don't screw it on all the way. Best Regards - Andrew in Austin, TX
Andrew in Austin
Kenny, if I can get this photo uploaded, note how far forward the front metering cell trim ring projects forward from the lens barrel on an Oly 35RC. The film speed adjuster is the center ring and it projects further out from the trim ring.

Best Regards - Andrew in Austin, TX
kenny_c.
Andrew,

Thank you for the photo. I see two silver rings. Is the filter thread on the inner silver ring? What is purpose of the outter silver ring? Which one is more forwarding out? Is the ASA dial is the black ring closing to the lens? Is the inner silver ring which mounts the filter(?) is the most forwarding out of the three rings?
Andrew in Austin
The chrome outer ring is the filter ring. The one just inside of that is the chrome plated plastic edge of the fascia. So, it's decorative. The black ring closest to the lens is the adjustment for the film speed. Best Regards - Andrew in Austin, TX
john_fleetwood
I pulled the rubber off a 43.5 collapsable hood (from B&H or somewhere) leaving just the plastic ring, which makes a decent hood by itself. A 43.5 snap-in cap fits perfectly on the ring, and is much more secure than the easily lost push-on cap. The ring doesn't block the meter or the rangefinder window. Just make sure the hood is threaded for filters. I like this set-up so much, I have a similar rig on a S-M-C Takumar 50/1.4.
john_fleetwood
Don't tell the Leica guys, but there is a photo taken with a 35RC with the above set-up on the Leica Forum: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=006BLr
carlomarks
I think a metal screw on sounds a bit scary to me. A simple clip on, much more user friendly!
kieran_hamill
"Hehe! Fish food cap. Excellent. I would prefer an original Olympus cap though. Very anal about things like that". I think you are out of luck on that one Dave. To the best of my knowledge Olympus have never made fishfood.
b30307
I don't like lens caps, never have. I found a 43.5 to 52mm step-up ring. Now I can use standard size filters,( and I have a metal lens hood also). No need for a cap to protect " the glass". Just some food for thought. carlomarks
Kieran. But if they did, I say it would be the best fishfood in the world!
