erik_asgeirsson
Is this a common occurance? I have some slides from a recent trip that were sent to Kodak for processing, and all the rolls had long, lengthwise scratches on the trannies. It's not a problem with my camera (EOS A2e), since my B&W and color negs are all scratch-free.
r.t. dowling
That is fairly typical of Kodak slide processing, unfortunately. You can call them and complain, but usually the only thing they'll do is send you either a new prepaid slide mailer or a free roll of Elite Chrome film. aguilabrava
This is weird, when I shoot Kodachrome I always drop my film at Eckerd or Walgreens and they send it out to Kodak for processing, they usually take one week to come back processed, but I have never had any problems with scratches or anything like that, always great results, my only complaint is the week I have to wait to get my film back... erik_asgeirsson
This is quite unfortunate. Does anyone know of any alternative mail-order slide developers that give good, consistant results?
richard_pellom__long_live_
I've had very good results with A&I. You can get discounted mailers for them from B&H.
nigel whitaker
I'm in the UK, and my preferred slide film used to be Kodachrome 64, sometimes K25 if the job suited it. When Kodak moved Kodachrome processing from the UK to Switzerland (for european customers), I noticed an immediate change. The return time went from a week or less to over 2 weeks (3 in one case). Also, the mounts were now thinner, and many frames had scratches, but they were oblique, not lengthwise, which made me think that it was the slide mounting equipment that may be at fault. I now use Fuji. Prepaid, simply drop it in the mail to Fuji UK, and it returns within 3-4 days, nicely mounted.
jonathan_bundick
I have never had a scratched slide from a Kodak mailer processed roll. They have lost a roll for well over 6 weeks, but eventually found it, and the slides were fine. Two weeks is an average turn-around time when mailed from Texas.
