michael_j._kravit
I recently bought a TC-20E Teleconverter to use with my AF-S 300. When I attach it there is a slight bit of rotational play between the converter and the camera (F5).
This play results in differing meter readings and improper auto-focus operation. Basically AF searches and can't acquire subject.
Without the TC-20E the lens and camera work fine. BTW, also tried this on my N-90s.....same problem. I really doubt that this is the proper operation of the TC-20E. Anyone experience this or have a TC- 20E and can comment.
My gut feeling is that the TC-20E I bought has a problem. Just wanted some opinions before I return/exchange it.
Mike
robert_smith
Mike, return the 20E...that one's got a problem...I use a 20 E on a 300 AF-I quite a lot and have not seen the problem as you described in your post...get an exchange. I believe you'll enjoy using it inspite of all the negative comments about 2X converters...the combo you have will deliver sharp results.
curt_casteel
Ditto to Robert's suggestion. I recently bought the AF-S 300 and use it regularly on my N90s with a TC14E. I notice a slight rotational play between the converter and camera, but it has not resulted in the problems you describe.

rob_hadlow
I have used the Nikon TC-20E and the 300/2.8AF-I, and have never noticed any play what so ever that you described.. This is not normal or is it a coman thing. You have a lemon, take it back and exchange, I am sure the next one you get will work just find, there a terrific combo.
