F5 Metering with AIS Lenses

I was just curious to find out what metering others tend to use when using AIS lenses

with an F5. I have not done too much photography with my MF lenses on my F5 but

would like to start using my 105/2.5 AIS for portrait work.

For those that use center-weighted most of the time, what is the size of the area that

you have defined to meter from? I have set Custom Function 14 to average, but was

wondering if anyone else has found a better setting. Do others find this to be the best

alternative to matrix metering and if not, what have you found works best?

Thanks,

Of the in-camera meters, I prefer to use the spot meter as it gives the most consistent results. You need a bit of practice with that (on slide film) though.

If you make portraits with reasonably short lenses (e.g. the 105), then an incident meter can be used easily and gives also excellent consistency.

For portraits I'd use the spot meter on the person's skin once you determine how

many stops that is off from 18% gray (you'll have to get the grey card out just once

for this). You can dial in the difference and voila to get near perfect metering you just

spot meter off the skin, lock exposure if you so desire, and shoot away. Enjoy the

lens...it's a nice one to work with.
