karl_yik1
Hello all,Can someone tell me if the glass used in a Leitz Noct with detachable hood and that of the current noct are the same. Ive read somewhere that the coating may be improved in the latter version.??Many thanks
d._kerry_crenshaw
I believe that they are the same. I have the detachable hood version. It takes 59mm filters, which is an annoyance to me, since I have to have a completely different set of filters from the 60mm ones I use with my 75mm lux. More stuff to carry. The detachable hood has slits in it for less obstruction of the viewfinder, which the slide-out hood does not, but the convenience factor of the slide-out hood is a consideration. In the newer slide-out version the lens takes 60mm filters. The detachable hood is round, and the attached hood is squar-ish shaped, like the 35mm cron hood. You may have the glass confused with the older f1.2 nocti, which is a different lens altogether, and according to reports, not nearly as sharp as the f1.0. jay_.
The 1st Noctilux takes 58mm filters, not 59mm. You can get a 60-58 step-down ring for the 75, which will let you use the much more common 58mm (most of Canon's lenses use them)on both lenses. andrew_hall1
So Karl, are you looking for different glass or better coating? I always recommend the book Identifying Leica Lenses to those who like to know about different versions/optical constructions, even though it does not mention the exact glass types used for each element. You could also try Puts' longish PDF on lenses from the Leica web site.
