cruiserparts
I was wondering if anybody had any experience using the Epson Perfection 3200 Scanner. If so, would you post your thoughts on using the 4x5 transparency scanning feature. I am interested in what it will do and it's limitations. brian_kennedy
Jon, I've posted my thoughts on using the 3200 with 4x5 transparencies in at least two or three threads here at photo.net. A quick search should bring up those threads and MANY others. Bottom line - works great for $400. Make very good prints up to 12x15, maybe even 24x30 from 4x5, shadow detail and sharpness nowhere near as good as a dedicated film scanner. craig_andrew_yuill
I own the older 1640, and it does quite a nice job with 4x5 negs and transparencies. When scanning 4x5 I place the film emulsion directly on top of the glass. The 4x5 holder causes sagging in the middle, which leads to Newton (interference) rings in parts of the image. Sharpness and color range are pretty good with this format.
