edwin
Hi,after a week or 3 of being a happy 1Ds owner i'm getting quiteused to the body except for one issue. The TV mode setting is still a bit of a mystery for me.Whenever i switch to this mode and i'm using a shutter speedfaster then 1/60th of a second all i'm getting is the AV indicator that keeps on flashing 2.8 indicating there's something not optimally set. Now when i do continue and take the picture all i'm gettingis 11Megapixels of total blackness. At first i though of havingforgotten to take the lenscap off but that's not the issue. Does anyone know where i can read a good explanation of that mode? The TV optimised setting is still a big mystery to me. Btw, i'm currently using the 16-35 F2.8L USM lense on the 1Ds bodyand there's no flash hooked up to the body. I hope that i'm not boring someone into falling asleep. lu_yin
I do not own a 1Ds, but Tv mode works the same for most SLRs. The camera tries to set an aperture value for the shutter speed that you have chosen. The reason you see 2.8 blinking is that for the fast shutter speed you have set, it is impossible to achieve a good exposure even when your lens is wide open. You might see 32 blinking if you set a slow shutter speed when it is really bright. Perhaps for the situation you descriped, you can set a higher ISO value and tried a slower shutter speed. Hope that helps. Lu
nicol_verheem1
I think TV mode is short for Troll Visit, but it could also be meant exclusively for taking pictures of your TeleVision, but I think you'll need the PAL/NTSC adapter for that. Unless you hook up the DV output of your HDTV box to the camera's DVI. :-) nlv
phil vaughan - yorkshire u
Edwin Lu has given you the correct answer. TV stands for Time Value most other manufacturers call it Shutter Priority. You dial in the shutter speed you want to use and the camera will set the aperture. There was not enough light for your chosen shutter speed, you can either change the ISO rating (not for film camera users) or change your shutter speed to acheive a correct exposure. I really ought to suggest you have a few early nights reading the manual and then the mystery of the camera would lift. BTW I'm suffering from a little digital envy. edwin
Phil, i know RTFM'ing is what i should do and am doing. I only need to get the TV mode to become as a second nature. That's what i need and any advice ( even the manual reading ) is greatly appreciated. Don't understand me wrong on that. If only my dog would not run away from the camera or stick his tongue out towards the lens when he sees it, all would be OK pretty soon. Thanks, Edwin
