mike_sazhin
To all you people that compare the EOS 3 to the EOS 1V. The EOS 3 is not lame and barely differs from the 1V. (Although I have not used the EOS 1V, I have researched it significantly when buying the EOS 3. I own an EOS3 and 7e) The metering modes on the EOS 3 and the 1V are the same, in fact the layout of the controls is the same on both cameras (For all the major components: Shutter Release, ISO, Metering Modes, Bracketing, etc) The EOS 3 is very rugged and is water resistant. I have shot it in heavy rain and never worried! The AF speed on the 1V and 3 is the same! It really depends on the lens at this point. Both of these cameras opperate the same 45 AF points and cross sensors. The EOS 3 and EOS 1V both have the fastest AutoFocus in the World!!!! (Notice that on the lens descriptions for the 300 2.8L USM canon specifies that the lens performs the fastest AF in the world with both the EOS 1V AND EOS3!! The EOS 3 has Eye Controlled Focus Selection, besides manual or auto selection. This is an extremely useful feature that the EOS 3 has and the 1V doesn't. ECF works very well for me, I wear Eye Glases and the ECF works great! I use ECF 99% of the time! Similarly the 1V has its bells and whistles, but for the most part these 2 cameras are nearly identical. The thing that sets them apart the most is their price tag! The EOS 3 is a real pro SLR!! If the EOS 3 and EOS 1V were the same price, then it would be very, very difficult to choose. I would probably still choose the EOS 3 for its ECF, which is one of the things that does set it apart from the 1V. I would forgo 100% viewfinder for 97% (barely any difference at all) and the 9fps for 7fps (once again a meager difference), etc... About the EOS 3 being loud, it is all relative. If you are in a noisy room or at a sports event, you might not even be able to hear the shutter yourself because of the loud background noise. I have never had problems with the noise level. You are more likely to draw attention from popping a flash then the shutter click of a camera! And finally, the EOS 3 shoots 4.3 FPS and 3/Servo without booster, and 7fps with booster, Servo and One Shot. The EOS 1V can only do 3FPS without the Booster, so without the booster the EOS 3 actually gives you more. The 1V with booster does 9 fps with booster, the EOS 3 7 fps. That is the difference between 2 photos in 1 second...not that big proportionally, and if you are not shooting sports or wildlife, you will not need 7 or 9 fps anyway and 4 is more than enough. The EOS 3 is most certainly an excellent upgrade for the elan 7, and the EOS 1V is over rated, the EOS 3 is twice the price of the elan 7 and is twice the power, durability and features, the EOS 1V is twice the price of the EOS 3 and is merely a couple features richer but lacks Eye Control AF. THE EOS 3 AND EOS 1V ARE VERY SIMILAR AND ANYONE WHO THINKS THAT THE EOS 3 IS LAME AND THE EOS 1V IS THAT MUCH BETTER IS IGNORANT AND SHOULD ACTUALLY TRY USING THESE CAMERAS BEFORE WRITING SOMETHING LIKE THAT. geddert
Mike - although as you can see by my posts in this thread - i agree with you that they are incredibly similar - i just wanted to point out that you shot yourself in the foot by saying <i>"I have not used the EOS 1V"</i> amd <i>"ANYONE WHO THINKS THAT THE EOS 3 IS LAME AND THE EOS 1V IS THAT MUCH BETTER IS IGNORANT AND SHOULD ACTUALLY TRY USING THESE CAMERAS"</i> - by your own admission you are lame because you haven't tried using both. I agree with you in sentiment, that they are incredibly similar - but you yourself say you have no right to make this comparison :P -- mike sazhin , May 29, 2003; 01:31 P.M. jason_eadie
Only one person has mentioned auto focus at f8. This is my favourite feature. If your buying a 3 and not the 1V, then you can probably not afford f2.8 glass either. Jason.
