lacey_smith4
ok, on the fiilter/no filter query (I DO use protective filters). This is perhaps the ONLY instance (but two negatives) in which I have been convinced of an unequivocal filter effect. I have had flare (non- image forming light junk) that I was suspicious of, but this is different. It is printed/displayed so you can see the effect, not the best print (otherwise, it is a good pict). Yes, the effect is on the negative. For reference, the item to note is the mirrored reflection of the bright upper window panes, across the beneath-window area AND THE STATUE (which excludes shadows form the windows to the side). Note also that is is, relatively, in focus, not blurred. And, though I can't necessarily prove it by this print, it is symmetric about the middle of the negative, and a little specific tree pattern is visible both in the upper bright window and the reflection.

Now, any internal lens or camera relections would not be in focus and would not be symmetric (except by extraorindary rare alignment of the stars, statistically impossible). A second negative shot tangentially to the next window (off screen to the right) had the same effect -- seems to require a very bright source, in appr the same location of the frame. SO, it must be a reflection off the front lens element, onto the filter, reimaged as if from a semi-silvered mirror. It must also be VERY lens/filter/circumstance combo specific. This was pre-asph 35 summircon, B&W filter (not MRC). The different shape of the asph, for instance, almost certainly would not show this effect. I have shot a lot of "tests" to compare flare amongst lenses, but this is most unusual.

fotografz
Then again flare can be used to good effect on occassion... strong light source right into the lens.
