jesse_kramer
Did the chrome M6 or M6TTL come with a black shutterspeed dial and black advance lever tip? In Bower's LEICA M PHOTOGRAPHY on page 141 a chrome M6 is depicted with these black details. I just like the way this camera looks. Can the chrome M6 TTL details be swapped for black ones, Thanks

glenn_warren
It's called a Panda. I also recall seeing a so called anti Panda; i.e. Black with Chrome dials.
jay_.
Yes, the Panda represents Leica's maiden effort at cosmetic engineering.
jesse_kramer
Thanks for the quick responses. Who can do this conversion for me on mt chrome TTL??
peterg
It you just want to replace your dial with a black one, you can easily order it over the phone from Leica in New Jersey. On the M6 classic, at least, unscrewing the old one and putting on a new one is a snap.
thomas_krantz3
The Panda was only made on the M6 Classic not the TTL as far as I know. Once upon the time stupid camera dealers tried to market the Panda as a collector item. Today they fetch no higher prices than the normal M6. jay_.
Any Leica repair person could do it. To recreate a Panda from your chrome TTL you would need to change not only the shutter dial but also the wind lever, the retaining "dish", the ring that retains the top plate underneath the winder; the rewind-clutch release lever and it's attachment screw; the frameline preselector lever and its retainer; the rewind crank/knob. This would run into some $$$.
luc vdb
I have just found (purely by coincidence) a M6 Panda for sale on a Dutch site : it has got the speed dial, the rewind and the film advance lever in black. Price was only slightly higher because of these features.
alec1
"This would run into some $$$." You're right about that! I changed a chrome release dish to a black one - $30 for the part." Looks better, though.
