10D and Nikon Lenses

i'm planning to buy one of those Nikon-to-EOS adapter (which have rip-

off prices worthy of another thread) and i'm wondering if anyone has

ever tried these adapters on a 10D...

i've read from NK Guy's excellent photonotes web site that the

Elan7's meter does not work very well with these adapters (shame on

you, Canon!). since the 10d is largely based on the Elan7, is this

the assumption as well?

sure i could probably try it, but heck if i'm going to spend upwards

$150+ just to try it!

thanks!

ps

in case you're interested, i'm just planning to use this adapter on

my Nikon 85/1.4 AF-D which has NO EQUIVALENT on the EOS line-up.

don't tell me it's the 85/1.2 or i'm gonna kill you. ;-)

No sarcasm intended at all here, but consider this- Nikon's D2 series most likely will start rolling out in the late summer to fall- at that point the price floors on D1H/D1X's will fall through and D1/D100's should be easily available under $1,000. Odds are you will be happier with one of those bodies and the Nikkor glass than with the adaptor... Just wanted to suggest an alternative.

Dexter, don't waste time, money, and effort on such adapters. You'll need to sacrifice much more than AF or metering.. why not get a Fuji S2 (which btw, has better images than the 10D), a D100, or wait for the next Nikon incarnation?

If you already have the 10D I think that you'd be better off with the 85/1.8 USM. It is a VERY good lens, quite cheap, has USM and best of all, you don't have to fuss around with adaptors, adjusting the metering, etc.

If you don't have the 10D and just can't live without THAT lens then I second Yaron. Get the S2. It's a very good body, probably the best for Nikon mount. See http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/fuji-s2-pro.shtml.

Happy shooting ,

Yakim.

i already have a 10D; i apologize that i did not make it clear on the question.

i know that the Canon 85/1.8 is a very good lens...i've seen photos using this lens but imho it's nowhere near the performance of the Nikon 85/1.4 at wide apertures.

i'm aware of the features that i'm going to lose, like AF...i will be using this for portraiture and still life. i just want to verify if stop-down metering would work.

thanks.

i will ignore that comment regarding the S2... ;-)
