jim_seaman
Hello, Several months ago I asked the question: RB or Koni Omega? I got some great insight from the list and more than one person commented "Both!". I bought the Koni and have been happy with it and now am thinking of getting an rb67 to suppliment it. I was looking out on that auction site (you know the one!) and noticed a nice clean rb67 pro s that was for sale that had a 90 non c lens. I emailed the seller ( a reputable camera store) hoping that the lack of c was just an omission and found that it was not. He did say that he had a very clean Pro S with a 127 C lens that he would let me have for around $650... This is within my budget and seems like a good deal. I've read a lot of posts regarding lens quality and am not sure what the final verdict is on the 127c... Any one with this kit care to step up and extol the virtues or sins of this combination? Also is the 127 C a good starting lens or should I be looking for a 90 C instead? This camera will take the place of my C330 as I'm now using the Koni Omega for almost all my street shooting... Thank you, Jim
jonathan brewer
He'll let you have it for $650..................there's no way he typed this with a straight face. Between Robert White and/or Lawrence('Leafshutter' on e-bay) you can get a NEW 127KL for around $750.00. It's been a while, but last time I checked with Lawrence he was selling a 'pro-pack' which was the RB Pro-SD, 127KL, and a 120 RFB for around $1750 US, brand new. joey
If it includes a back, and everything is close to like-new condition, it's a good deal. If it looks like the equipment has been used heavily, or there's no film back or finder, it's not such a good deal. The 127C is a great lens, although quality varies between samples. jim_seaman
Jonathon and Joey, Thanks for the responses. Sorry if I was vague with my description. The $650 includes a pro s body, pro s 120 back, waist level finder and 127 c lens in 9 condition AND shipping to me. (Their scale of items they sell goes from 6 to 10- with 10- being mint) If it were just the lens, I doubt he would have been able to keep a straight face too! :) He is sending me some pictures tomorrow. I'm expecting the gear to be in good condition. The only real question mark I really have is about the lens itself... I've seen some negative reviews for it out here which is what really prompted my post. I wanted to see if there were some good votes for it being a decent prime lens. The gear comes with a 30 day warrenty where I can return it if not satisfied, but I hate to go through it all if I'm getting bad glass by design... I found one locally but it looks like its been run over by a truck, dragged 10 miles AND they want $750 for it. (I had a hard time keeping a straight face at THAT!) Once I sell my c330 I'll probably use the proceeds to buy another lens. Thank you again for reading and commenting, Jim
wayne_crider4
Actually it's a very good deal. I paid more for mine peice part but then it may be in a little better condition. If the seals are good I'd say sure why not. The 127 is a nice lens and I love the setup. You'll have to get use to the interlocks and cocking the lenses before you change them. The waist level is always complimented by a right angle prism and will be preferable depending on subject matter. I can't see owning both outfits for some reason. It seems one is going to get more use than the other, just as people more likely gravitate to one camera more often, so it's best if you can try an RB. Either way their both a handfull, but I love the RB. For lenses, and if you do alot of street shooting, I would believe that something wider would be better since the dof is better at the same aperture. I shoot alot of in city landscapes and having compared my friends 90 to my 127, I can see the advantages of the 90. It all depends on what your shooting and your own vision. jim_seaman
Wayne, Thank you for the response. The seals are reportedly in good shape. The kit is in "9" shape but I'm still waiting for photos. I will likely buy it since it sounds like a good deal to me. I like slr's and I've enjoyed the quality of my c330 so the rb seemed a natural choice. Not sure how much field shooting I will do with it as of yet, but I'm sure I will try it. I'd like one of the newer kl's but the complete kit for this one is $100 less than the cheapest 127 kl lens that I found... Cocking the lens is something you should do with the c330 to before you change it out, so hopefully this will be ingrained already. Fortunately (?) I won't have to worry about another lens till I get my c330 kit sold anyway. I will have to use it a bit before I buy any accessories but I suspect I will want a prism finder. I have a porrofinder for my c330 but its a little dark for my tastes so I usually leave it off. Thank you for the comments, Regards, Jim
