stephen_dominick
Does anyone's F3 shutter ever stick on 1/80th, then after a couple of shots, it goes back to normal operation? Seems to happen after some inactivity with the camera.
carl_madson
The F3 will only meter at 1/80th of a second until you reach frame #1.
stephen_dominick
Carl, if I shoot a half roll, shut the camera off, put it away for a day or so, when I turn it back on (sometimes, not always) the shutter will stick at 1/80 until I shoot a few frames. Ed_Ingold
The first answer is correct! You need to wind off a couple of frames to reach frame #1. The shutter speed is fixed at 1/80, so you don't get a rediculously long time if the lens cap is on.
Ed_Ingold
Sorry for the short answer. I wasn't checking names in the thread, and misread the new info you provided. Could the camera think a flash is attached? That would lock the shutter at 1/80. A defective ISO shoe adapter, for example. Maybe a low battery? stephen_dominick
Edward, thanks for your responses - checked battery, hardly use flash. Seems to be a recurring 'phantom' problem - only one this wonderful camera has ever given me! I have the F3 titanium black and its a real gem! mskovacs
There is a conductor/insulator strip with contact blades that are part of the frame counter assembly. The conductor is orientated so that the contact blades make contact at frame 1 and higher but not earlier. When the circuit is closed, the IC allows the shutter speed to be set as desired.
I have heard of this conductor strip slipping but this would cause the 1/80 failure up to the same number of frames and wouldn't be intermittent.
I'm not a repair expert but I think that there may be some crud or a loose connection that is causing intermittant problems with the electrical contact. This is probably beyond most people's ability to fix themselves so a repair is probably in order. There's some instruction here on how to get into the area of interest but the problem being fixed is a broken release. You can't really see what I talk about above but its all under the counter assembly that you see removed in the last photo.
