redmachus
I'm still learning large format, and I had a question. Would it be possible to use a modern polariod back on my Speed Graphic? If it takes the same film holders, it should be possible, right? Has anyone any experience with this? Any suggestions would be appriciated. john_kasaian1
Casey, I've been able to use a polaroid 545i back on my Pacemaker Crown as well as an Anniversary. Both htee cameras have a spring backs. I don't use it much anymore, but type 55 p/n is a lot of fun. If it fits---it fits!
pozo_seco
Casey...I would venture to guess that if you purchase a 4x5 Polaroid holder for your Graphic you will be very well pleased, and will get much use out of it... and fun too!
jnanian
hi there you might not know about the #500 back. it is thinner than the 545 & 545i series polaroid backs. it has a different roller system to spread the chemistry and it will also work with the single sheet polaroid films. folks will probably chime in and say that it isn't meant to be used with the polaroid other than what it was specifically made for, but it will, and the holders will probably be sold to you for next to nothing. the only real difference is that the newer holders have a stop when you pull the "darkslide" off to expose your negative, the #500 you will have to judge how far to pull the paper, else you will pull it off completely :) now that is something you don't want to do ! is isn't hard, it gets kind of hard to pull about where you want to stop ... i originally bought mine as a backup when my 545 was in need of a "grabber" repair ( you can go to sk grimes website to learn how do make this simple repair yourself ...) and i haven't really used another holder since then ... i have heard that it is kind of a tight fit for positive negative film - i haven't used it with that film yet, but i would guess that it will probably work without a problem. the cool thing is that lots of people just sell them for a few bucks because they think they are for film that isn't made any more lucky for us <g> .. good luck and hope you have lots of fun! john
Troll
The other problem with the Model #500 is that there are no springs holding the film tight against the film plane, so it can flop around and be out-of-focus.
jnanian
hi again casey - as i said, some folks will say the #500 should not be used with the modern single sheet films ... i have been using one for i dunno between 5 and 10 years, and haven 't had a problem yet ... :) - john
mark_cudworth
I haven't had any focus (film flatness) problems with my #500 holder, and I have shot Polaroids, Quickloads and Readyloads in it.
