harryo
Can anyone tell me the difference between the older EF 1.4x teleconverter and the new model EF 1.4x II. I am looking for one for my 70-200 F4 lens on an EOS 3 camera. Does the II version provide anymore compatability over the older version for the above lens/camera setup. thanks harry
jackflesher
The only difference between the version I and the version II (both white) is the rubber weather-sealing gasket in the version II -- otherwise they are identical. There was an earlier 1.4x converter that is BLACK in color also -- it supposedly has inferior optics. Cheers,
johnlund
Canon also says they improved anti-reflective surfaces in the barrel. I do not know how much difference this change makes, if any.
whayne_padden
There is a review on luminous landscapes of the difference between the 2.0x TC old and new http://luminous-landscape.com/reviews/c-ext.shtml There is very little in it, although the newer one seems ever so slightly better. I would assume the same is true of the 1.4x TC also.
wildpicture
Jack and John are both right: The II version has a rubber ring on both ends to seal it slightly better against water. Also the inner surface of the tube has a different coating: simply pu a better more matt paint is used. Optically the 1.4x I and the 1.4x II are identical. So there is no difference in optical quality!
jackflesher
...But the 2xI and 2xII are significantly different designs optically -- the version II also getting the gasket, as well as being superior with longer lenses, AND altered to accept additional converters "stacked" to the rear.
