dan_wolfgang
I'm looking for some small flashes to supplement my Nikon SB-28. I like the looks of Quantaray's MS-1 (<A HREF="http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisp lay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=- 1&productId=30235&topCategory=1004&cat1=5849722">here</A>), primarily because it's small, wireless, and cheap. I don't want to buy studio lighting for those reasons--small/portable and cheap are important. <P> These would serve as general purpose fill. Likely used for macro, general area fill, and creative experimentation. <P> Can anybody recommend any other good alternatives?
barmijo
Provided your camera and main flash don't use pre-flash for calculating exposure the unit you're looking at should work. I'm not a Nikon user, but Canon's higher-end gear would trigger these before the shutter ever opened. I've seen a couple similar unit advertised that you can program with the number of pre-flashes used by your camera but haven't tried them.

kasigi
1) SB-28's do use preflash to meter. 2) I don't know if teh SB-28 pre-flashes will trigger the slaves on the quantaray unit. Take a look a some of Nikon's newer small flashes. Many have interesting abilities (including TTL wireless flash when paired with the right main flash). dan_wolfgang
Thanks for the responses. Nikon's SB-30 looks interesting, and that may be what I decide to get.
