Not the first but One of the pioneers of abstract art was Wassily Kandinsky. He literally saw colors when he heard music, and heard music when he painted. The story goes... a young Vasya opened his paint box and began mixing the reds, the yellows, the blues, he heard a strange sound—the swirling colors trilled like an orchestra tuning up for a symphony. What an interesting ability that would be.
