Hi. Allancobb, very good shot. How do you find using the Q? Any downsides? Bill Blackwell Images the last shot is very good. My contribution, again with a monochrom and my go to 75mm lens is from dinner out last week. The first is of the performer that night, which demonstrates the monochrom's incapacity to deal with highlights. The next two are of patrons who attended. Regards, Arthur.

Hi Arthur, I've had mine since mid-January, and in a nutshell, I love it.

Keeping in mind I have the original Q (Type 116) and not the 47MP Q2, which was beyond my price range, even used. With the single fixed 28mm lens (an excellent f/1.7 Summilux by the way), I still have the flexibility of interchangeable lenses with the selection of crop factors to 35mm and 50mm equivalents, which cover 90% of my typical Leica shooting.  I find its EVF to be quite good as well as the live view presentation. Handling is excellent.

The only possible downsides (not so much for me, but possibly for others) is the resolution reduction when using the crop modes to 35mm (15 MP) or 50mm (8 MP). Being used to the M8 and its 10.5 MP resolution, it's not so much a factor for me. The Q2 solves that somewhat by starting out at 47MP at 28mm (vs. the 24MP at 28mm for my Q1), then going down from there, even offering a 75mm crop mode. Some people complain about the original Q's battery life (again, I haven't seen it as a big deal) and/or the lack of weather sealing (again I use normal precautions in the rain that I would for any camera), both issues solved in the Q2.

I hope this helps!

When you shot the posted AT-11 photo, how old, and which ASA was your roll of Kodachrome? Nicely done. Is that an actual WWII barracks and what is the aircraft in the left background?

It was taken at Pima Air & Space Museum. I took the picture at least 25-years ago when Kodachrome was still widely available.  I noted it was Kodachrome 64, but the truth is I shot all varieties of Kodachrome and it could have been ASA 25, 64, or 200 - all if which I used regularly and interchangeably by that time.

The last time I was there (about 5-years ago), the barracks were still there, but the WWII era planes parked around it were no longer there (they had been restored and moved into one of the museum buildings). As to the plane to the far right in the background - I'm not sure, but it was probably another trainer similar to the one in the foreground.

When you come to a fork in the road, take it ...

Hi MTC Photography.  I'd love some details on the processing you used, film, etc. The first shot is very 'spotty', the final shot is evocative. I'm not sure if that's a IIIc or IIIf. And does your leicameter still work?. They were made by metrawatt, and are shoddy. A bit like the 'leica' EVF's I now use, made by Epson, but sold at twice the price with a leica brand name, and just as shoddy. My leicameters gave up up what little ghost they had years ago. Regards, Arthur (apiarist1).
