jim mucklin
I am planning to do some action shots with a F3hp body with a 300mm, my question is I have read the sites and according to them I can use the 14A or 14B. Has anyone tried this combo and could give some feedback. I am leaning toward the 14A because I doubt I will ever go bigger that 300. Any help would be appreciated. Thank Jim
carl_madson
What 300mm lens do you have? What brand? What is the max. aperture?
alex_lofquist
George Lepp compared the TC14A and the TC14B, in his Journal, "The Natural Image", back about a dozen years ago. Examining these on the 300 f/4 and the 500 f/4, the TC14B was noticably sharper than the TC14A. Since the lens elements on the "B" extend into the tele lens, there are some lenses that will not accept it. The "A" is less expensive and will work with all of them, including the Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8, the Nikkor 75-300 f/5.6, the Nikkor 180 f/2.8 (I think this will also work with the TC14B), and the Sigma 400 f/5.6. I personally use the TC14B as I want the sharpest images that I can get, though I might consider buying the TC14E and modifying it to fit the earlier lenses.
