dave_cheney
Hi All, I've just got a 2nd hand Fuji GW690 III RF from that auction site. Its in very good condition with 260 on the clock. My first thoughtsfrom holding it is apart from the plastic nature of the body (which Iexpected - given its weight I'm glad its not metal), is the noise theshutter release makes, a noisy pliiiiiiiing, which I have read is partof the exposure counter mechanism. Without going into the rights and wrongs of disabeling the counter, would anyone know if it is possible to disable the counter or dampenthe noise that it produces? barry schmetter
I'd bet if you were willing to disassemble (and possibly) break your camera, you could figure out how to do it. There's probably a single gear or pin that could be removed to do the job. Another option would be finding a shady camera repair person--I hear they hang out in the bars down by the waterfront. Seriously, I've never heard of anyone doing this. The noisy pliiiiiiiing has nothing to do with the frame counter. It's the sound of the shutter and it comes with the territory. When you look at those 6 X 9 negs and chromes the pliiiiiiiing will be forgiven. Celebrate the pliiiiiiiing. Embrace the pliiiiiiiing.
thidglance
1/2 Inch drill bit, slow speed so the plastic doesn't bur ought to do the trick.
joseph_walsh2
I agree with you both. Dave, when I got my GSW I immediately noticed that cheezy ping. Not at all like the precice "tick" from the Mamiya 7. OTOH, great lens! As Barry says, wait til you see those 6x9s on the light box. I figure I paid for and got a 200 dollar camera body, a fifty dollar shutter, six dollar camera strap and $1000 worth of glass. Fair enough. gary_frost1
It's not the shutter itself that makes the pliiinnng, nor is it thecounter. It is the hairbrained shutter button(s) and their associatedlinkage... the same stuff that brings your the unique Fuji 'T' shutter.Yes, it is forgiven when you see the results. You are not the first one to consider ways of ridding the camera of this obvious fault. The unmistakable signature of the Fuji rangfinder.Just learn to live with it. (....but if you do actually fix it, be sure to let us know how you did it)

dave_cheney
Or I could run over it with a steam roller, common guys, I was being vaguely serious ... :) Dave
andrew booth
Dave, I'd leave the counter alone. As others have stated the shutter button causes noise. The best way of smoothing the shutter mechanism is to press both shutters at once. It's easy when you get used to it and it really helps (it works for me anyway). Just joking about the clocking... nicholas_t.
Comparing my Rolleis and my Koni Omega
The difference in sound is amazing. The Rollei's Compur shutter is silient and the Koni is like the proverbial sledge hammer.
So, I can't really answer your original question - other than say, some shutters make a lot more noise.
