yakim_peled1
No. I never heard of anyone complaining. However, I've read that the new equivalent Nikon - AFS 70-200 mm f/2.8 G ED IF VR - have serious flare problems. See http://www.naturfotograf.com/AFS70-200VR_rev05.html#top_page. BTW, is flare a problem only in small apertures ? I am mostly going to use it when it's wide open. Now, it's not that I am going to switch to Nikon or anything like that. Heaven forbid :-))) but I still wonder. Nikon is well renowned for it's excellent optical performance (technological achievements like USM and IS aside). This started long ago and, to the best of my knowledge, continues till this day. So, if they can't make it, can Canon ? The reason that I'm asking is that I'm going to buy it in the near future and I want to know as much as possible. I already know that sharpness is top notch but have any of you encountered any other optical problems ? Vignetting ? Distortion ? Flare ? Please say it isn't so ...... Happy shooting ,Yakim. jose_escobar
Did you read the reviews on this site of that lens??? I've never used it, but I've seen pictures with the sun in the frame, and there is no noticable flair...
yakim_peled1
>> "Did you read the reviews on this site of that lens???" Of course. And in other places as well. Look at the first sentence of my post. >> "I've never used it" Well, I hoped it was clear from my original post. I am looking to hear from people who have. >> "I've seen pictures with the sun in the frame" I haven't. Otherwise I wouldn't have posted.
beauh44
Only when I didn't use the hood!! I think it handles flair pretty well, personally. It's a great peice of glass - but very heavy! Best wishes... beau
dsc
Yakim, you will not be disappointed with this lens. It is our favorite lens (wedding photography), and handles flare very well (we always use the lens hood). I've seen worse flare with the 85 1.4, but without the lense hood. Expensive, heavy, and worth every penny. Best,
barmijo
This is a superb lens and I've seldom had problems with flare. Only on a few strongly backlit subjects have I ever noticed a loss of contrast.
rajud
I have the non-IS version. I use lens hood whenever I can (except when I have to use a polarizer, i.e. :-), and I did not experience any flare problem. -Raju
canon man
I have never had a problem with flare but always use the lens hood also. I would imagine thatif you dont use the hood it would flare bad. But once you get it and look down its throat you would agree. There isa lot of glass in it and the elements are huge! One thing you will notice is that the lenshood is gigantic! In fact it is petaled like wide angle hood. I would imagine they did this to maximize protection from flare. I have also found it great fro protecting the front element form rain while shooting in a drizzle. Be forwarned, the lens weighs 3 lbs! If you don't have a BP300 I would advice getting one and adding the E1 Handstrap to it. It will aid in the handling.
yakim_peled1
Forgot to mention that I plan to use the lens hood all the time. But still, can someone post a picture with the sun in the frame or with a strongly backlit subject ? TIA.
