lars_sobaskie
there have been various threads about this over the years, but nothing seemingly conclusive. I decided to go with the #312 zinc-air battery with a spacing washer. The last thread I found ended without saying what the correct "O" ring spacer would be. Anybody gone this route? m42dave
The ST701 was designed for two PX400 mercury batteries (1.35v each) and the meter is voltage sensitive. 1.35v zinc-air Wein cell equivalents are available, but using two of them is not a very economical option. Two zinc-air 312 batteries (if 1.4v each) are probably close enough, but some hearing aid batteries are 1.45v each, and with two, might affect the meter's accuracy. Any O-ring that fits snugly around the outside of the battery and keeps it in place should work. O-rings may not be suitable for cameras that make battery contact on the sides of the battery compartment, though. Personally, I think the best solution with this camera is to adjust the meter, which is not particularly difficult to do. There are instruction on doing so below: ST701 BATTERY FIX Edited August 25, 2021 by m42dave
