National Geo Photog dies... introduced Leica and Kodachrome

Recommended Posts

Just saw this in the NY Times. This photographer, Luis Marden, just

died. The Obit states that he was very instrumental in the use of

Leica cameras at the National Geographic magazine. It also states

that he introduced the use of kodachrome at the magazine which became

the standard for so many years.<P>

Hey, Guys - Don't be too cavalier in dismissing this person's contributions.

Go to:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A37600-2003Mar3.html.

IMHO the Post did a much better review of his life - - and the photograph accompanying the article has him standing in front of a ruin in the Mayan City of Chichen, with a III series Leica around hius neck.

Any photographer who had an image 0f the Karma Sutra on his tie and cufflinks made from the sheathing nails from the Bounty - - and who shotwith a III series couldn't be all bad!!!
