steve_white7
I just mistakenly told my live-in girlfriend I had bought a new C/V 25mm with viewfinder off ebay for $200. She didn't take it too well because I'd also bought a pocket rangefinder and a Leica finder earlier in the week. Does anyone have any good excuses I could borrow to get myself off the couch. Or, does anyone have any similar stories that'll make me feel better? The more gruesome and violent the better. Cool lens though and definitely worth it. Thanks<div></div>
lex_jenkins
My first thought whenever photography and female companions are mentioned in the same breath is the one that probably crosses the minds of most photographers: "Umm, honey...? What are you wearing...?"
kajabbi
Unless the money you spent was her's, just tell her to "GET OVER IT!!". If the place is hers then find another place to live. If the place is yours, be a gentleman and help her pack!
henry_ting2
Just tell her between your cameras and her, you can't live without the other.

george_conboy1
Go back and read some older threads about guys who have sold various bodies or lenses and deeply regret it. (Myself included) Now go back and see if there are any wistful remembrances of women from the past.
michael_kastner
Same old story: as re Leica, it's often one body against the other.
john_fleetwood
Thank her for the nice valentine's present. Then clam up and set up a money laundering account for next time.

jan_viljoen
The term for this is WAF (Wife acceptance factor) it is a big problem in the audiophile world as well.Jan
lee_shively
You actually TOLD her what you paid!!!??? Steve, Steve, Steve. There are rules, you know. Don't ask and don't tell. It may not work that great for the military but it can help maintain domestic bliss. By the way, how do you like the lens?
ralph_barker
You might try, "I bought it so I could capture your beauty even better, My Love." Of course, if she's on the ball, the fact that it's a wide angle lens might be a detriment here. ;-) Or, how about, "I bought it so we could take it with us to Bermuda, My Dear." (Note that "balance" is very important in these things. A trip to Bermuda is approximately equivalent to a $200 lens, from the female perspective.) leica_phil
I have this same problem. Clothes, stuff for the house, books, CD, I can buy almost anything for myself with nary a comment. However, buy one lens, body, hell even a filter and it's "What do you need that for!" Oh well,
fotografz
Some where along the line you allowed her to know about your camera stuff. After that you were dead meat. NEVER let them start and you won't have the problem every time you want something. Unless of course, you are using her half of the rent money to buy it. Then you're dead meat no matter what. Oh, a great ruse is to never have more than one camera and lens out at one time in front of her. Then rotate them at will. As far as she'll know you have one camera and lens. steve_white7
I'm afraid I can't hide it from her. Not only do I craddle and carry around new equipment like a baby for the first few days, but she's also a photographer and knows equipment. The problem is she doesn't "get" the Leica RF system. We have SLRs that have a wide range of lenses and to need a viewfinder for each lens is crazy to her. The fact that no one has really posted anything similar or worse that they've done is telling me a lot. Either they're dead or I don't really know women. Or both. sal_ortega
Oddly enough, my wife has never complained about my photography equipment outlays. She considers that benign compared to my other hobbies, woodworking (potential for missing body parts, bringing dust into the house) and bicycling (scraping me off the pavement). skeeter
take the best picture of her you have ever taken with your new lens. mount/frame it. she will never say another word.
skeeter
my first post was to get you out of the dog house. my horror story was that for our 20th wedding anniversary, i told my wife i was getting myself a hasselblad. she hasn't forgotten, is likely still plotting her revenge, and i suspect when she extracts it, will cost me more than my hassy. perhaps this will help, or perhaps your girlfriend will ban you from this forum. if she is a photographer, however, she should understand. Rob F.
Tell her it's an investment. Stocks are in the toilet, and bonds are overpriced right now. Leica gear (well, OK, CV) is the only prudent investment just now.
