jadedmonkeys
What do you guys think of the Mamiya C3 as a beginning medium camera for a beginner? They're selling a used one (obviously) at a trusty camera store here in San Diego called "Nelson's Photo Supplies" for $145. First of all, is that a good deal? Second, How is it as a beginning camera? and third, It's a double lens, could that be much of a problem? Oh yeah and it comes with a 80mm f2.8 if im not mistaken. greg_smith4
I think it's a great camera. Good for a beginner, and can be used even when your more advanced. The double lens thing isnt a problem untill you start focusing real close (some thing as a range finder). What kind of condition is it in?
sm. alec
I've begun looking at these as well, and $145 sounds like a reasonable price relative to final bids on various auction sites. Ask if it's had a CLA. I think these are considered good beginner camera's simply because of their price, and their not fully automated (and therefore force you to learn more about exposure issues). Do a google search on Mamiya TLR and you'll find TONS of info. Good luck.
kelly_flanigan1
I have a C3; and it works well. The foam condition maybe poor on an older camera; run a test roll of film thru it as a condition of purchase. The photos can be shot outside the store in the sun; this is a check of a light leak.

several backs fit the C3

lemastre
The foam in any older camera oxidizes and begins turning back into the crude oil whence it came. The specks of tar that result can stick like glue to anything, including your film and lenses. When the foam feels the least bit sticky, dig it out and replace it. I replaced the foam in my C330 with real shaggy black knitting yarn, held in place with a few dabs of clear glue.
crackers_.
It's a good deal and twin lenses aren't difficult to use if you can imagine an apple on top of every subject.
chris_waller
I have a Mamiya Press 23, an RB67 Pro-S and a C33. I have a lot of respect for Mamiyas. I use my C33 for landscape and it has tolerated many years of being lugged around in a rucksack but still continues to perform. At that price I'd go for it. tfg
Hi guys... well, I got the same notion. But ufortunately the price in this case is $330 US. Included in that price is: 80mm 135mm Minolta Autometer II and a camera bag Seller describes camera as: "..looks very nice, 100% ok, no scratches in optics.." Does that sound like a good deal or should I walk past it with my nose pointing straight up? :D Thanks -Torben
