remi_coignard_friedman
Hi, Sorry for what can be considered as a stupid question but I recently read in a french magazine dedicated to photography "réponses photo" that the well-known leicaist Ralph Gibson uses with his M6 a 1.52 view extender. What is it for? thanks. Rémi
sal dimarco
Most likely, what they are talking about is the 1.25 magnifer for the viewfinder system. Happy Snaps,
remi_coignard_friedman
Thanks Sal but I don't understand what the aim of using this magnifier...could you explain me ? Rémi
roger_michel
it's what lets you occasionally see the merits of medium format (if you squint).
lutz
The 1.25x magnifier makes a 0.72 viewfinder (for example) become a (roughly) 0.85 viewfinder. Thus the focus patch is enlarged which allows for more precise focussing, welcome with long lenses, wide open. Downsides: the viewfinder is slightly dimmed and the field of view is more restricted.
