rainer_kroenke
M T F !!!! Hi all together. The MTF chart on Canon USA is totally wrong !Look on the link to Canon JP and you will find, that the 4.0outsurpasses the 16-35 L. http://www.canon-sales.co.jp/camera/ef/catalog/category/ef17_40_f4l.html Regards Rainer
isaac sibson
Rainer- Superb catch! VERY interesting. I'm sure everyone here is hoping that the japanese MTFs are the correct ones!
fx
Well, according to Canon Japan's site the retail price is listed ~ $1000 USD(equating to ~ $800 USD street price). A fair bit less than the 16-35 F2.8L. Definately good to hear. The corrected MTF chart seems more consistant with previous wide-angle L zoom offerings as well. d_l1
Wow, Canon USA did it again! Good catch Rainer!
john_catapano2
Im happy to see this lens. It continues a trend Canon started with the 70-200/4L of producing some (relatively) affordable L-series models. The 17-40/4 and 70-200/4 fit a nice market niche between Cannons cheaper consumer-grade lenses and their more expensive 2.8 aperture professional Ls. Now all they need to do is make a 600/5.6 IS L priced in the $3-4,000 range are you getting this Canon?
kenghor
Weight and size of the 17-40 L don't differ much from its f2.8 brother. Would be great if the weight is 350g and uses the same 67mm filter like the 70-200 f4. The signifcant reduction in size and weight of the 70-200L f4 really gives me the incentive to switch over despite the slower lens.
