bing_huey1
Thanks Laura. This was using a dissecting microscope with an attached camera. The lighting was darkfield with a little oblique incident light to pick up the surface features. It is around 2mm arm tip to arm tip.
Andrew Gosden
A number of the periodic cicadas from the local brood are coming up a few years early. Lots of theories as to why, including climate change. It's possible that enough of them will emerge to create a new brood, or maybe a mini brood. We did not get too many in our yard but some people in the area did.
sallymack
"The Wait" Three of the four had already fledged. Wayne, are you aware that no photo appears with your post? --Sally
Matthew Currie
Apologies for appearing a little late, but just got back last night from a long absence, specifically a trip to Africa which, needless to say, should provide monday shots for some time to come when I get the processing done. But here, at any rate, is one quickie. These lilac breasted rollers are very common in southern Africa, but these were particularly obliging in giving us the "bird book" mug shot of both sides at once.
