mike_halliwell
The thing that caught me out was that the battery and thus battery door is at 90 Deg to 'normal' Nikon DSLRs...ie the battery doesn't live in the hand grip, as it were, it's in line with the body. Are there any others like this?

mike_halliwell
OK! I wonder what prompted the rotation? I haven't tried it yet, but I wonder if tripod QRPs foul the newer door position? I'll have to go and turn over all my bodies and look!
Dieter Schaefer
I wonder what prompted the rotation? Grip is too narrow to accommodate the battery. The other solution, employed in the Df, is to make the battery smaller, which luckily wasn't the path selected.

Are there any others like this? Uh oh, I have a Spider plate, hand grip and Monfroto quick release on the bottom of my D300s and allows the battery door to be opened easily, sounds like the D500 door will be covered by the plate. Not so happy about that. Edited February 24, 2017 by Nikon Mister
mike_halliwell
Hope I'm wrong about the QRPs and L brackets...although I'd 'assume' an L bracket designed for the D500 would allow for this..;)

Kirk, Markins, and RRS all offer an L-bracket that is simply a bit shorter.
