howardstanbury Posted March 8, 2015 Share Posted March 8, 2015
It's Torpids - the early spring inter-college rowing competition - this week in Oxford. On four successive days multiple mens and womens teams from the colleges row against each other. If you catch the boat in front of you then you gain their place for the next day's racing. Each race has a dozen boats and there are eleven divisions that race each day.

<a title="Torpids 2015 - day 3 by Howard Stanbury, on Flickr" href=" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8674/16734336841_da85491184_c.jpg" alt="Torpids 2015 - day 3" width="800" height="475" />

In this photo the cox of the front boat raises her hand to signal the team has conceded the 'bump'
<a title="Bump! / Torpids 2015 by Howard Stanbury, on Flickr" href=" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8589/16542187049_9c6682c17d_c.jpg" alt="Bump! / Torpids 2015" width="800" height="602" />

And then on the way home yesterday I passed this timeless view of the spires of Oxford at dusk
<a title="Every picture tells a story /1 by Howard Stanbury, on Flickr" href=" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7289/16747120265_bbb256705d_c.jpg" alt="Every picture tells a story /1" width="800" height="641" />
All Sony A7 / LA-EA4 / Tamron 28-300 zoom (A06)

As ever, please add your selection of pictures taken with Sony/Minolta gear, digital or film, to a maximum of 3 photos.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
randy_cooprider1 Posted March 8, 2015 Share Posted March 8, 2015 Howard, the dusk picture is nostalgic (except for the power lines) of an earlier time. We are in Florida for the baseball spring training games so I have some shots from around the motel. Used the Nex 3 in P mode jpeg storage.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

paul_de_ley Posted March 9, 2015 Share Posted March 9, 2015
A few shots from Devereux Slough in Goleta, CA. My a450's mirror release mechanism gave up a week ago, so these are taken with a500 and Minolta 600 f4 apo:

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
paul_de_ley Posted March 9, 2015 Share Posted March 9, 2015
This female merganser walked rather than flew across the sandbar between the lagoon and the shore. First time I've seen one do that, she must have had a wing injury.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
paul_de_ley Posted March 9, 2015 Share Posted March 9, 2015
Snowy plovers are protected higher up on the beach. Some of them think the sand is greener on the public part of the wire though.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
