<p>An unseasonably mild Halloween in our neck of the woods and while some grumble at this American invasion of our culture, there is no doubting the enthusiasm with which it is taken up here.</p>

<p>Howard, the detail in the merged shot is obvious even at 700 pixels. Since the time change is this weekend in the U.S. I thought this picture was appropriate. Nex 3 program mode.</p><div></div>

<p>I just arrived in Argentina for another month of desert soil sampling in the opposite hemisphere. Interestingly, argentinians don't do daylight saving at all - perhaps they're all too keen to have late dinners and tango in the streets after sunset?</p>

<p>The bird life is active in the suburban gardens here as ever. Doves are not the most unusual looking members, but they do make good practice subjects for jetlagged travelers!</p>
