randy_cooprider1 Posted June 21, 2014 Share Posted June 21, 2014 This week we went to the Cagle's Mill/Cataract Falls/Lieber State Park area in Indiana. I had forgotten how bad the roads could be but the memory came back quickly as we went from area to area. Any stream or creek that had a steady flow of water usually had a grist mill in pioneer times. Cagle's Mill was one of them but time has removed the mill itself. The spillway (I think) is still there. I am getting familiar with the Nex 3 and kit lens. I checked Bokeh with a day lily. Post up to three of your Sony pictures with the long side no more than 700 pixels.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Member69643 Posted June 23, 2014 Share Posted June 23, 2014
Thanks Paul! Your macros are much better than mine, I think. I was traveling with my ultra lightweight kit: the a58 and 55-200mm lens. Man, that's a lot o' plastic. :) I wasn't able to get real close with the lens but some of the shots came out ok. Those of us not swayed by the a7 nor the NEX can still make a halfway decent image once in a while! :)
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
randy_cooprider1 Posted June 23, 2014 Author Share Posted June 23, 2014 Patrick, the Nex3 is my light weight kit. I am missing the eye level view finder of the A100 though. Does the fungus come with Marinara Sauce? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
howardstanbury Posted June 24, 2014 Share Posted June 24, 2014
Randy, I did try an attachable loupe-style finder for the NEX-3 that enabled you to use the camera at eye-level. I'll see if I can find a link to the product page. It's a bit Heath-Robinson in approach but treated with care can help address the issues of using the LCD in bright light.

I have been travelling so am late with photos. I spent a week mostly in Brittany, but started in Normandy with a visit to Le Mont St Michel - here is a famous view as a two-frame panorama

<a title="Le Mont St Michel by Howard Stanbury, on Flickr" href=" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2932/14314501029_3b2c71550b_c.jpg" alt="Le Mont St Michel" width="800" height="338" />
(NEX-7 and SEL 55-210 zoom)
I had had some photos selected for an open-air exhibition in the town of Landerneau; here one inhabitant looks at a picture I took of Iford Manor near Bradford on Avon in England.

<a title="Iford Manor photo exhibited in France by Howard Stanbury, on Flickr" href=" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3898/14314437938_8c877f13d1_c.jpg" alt="Iford Manor photo exhibited in France" width="537" height="800" />
(That's the biggest print I have ever seen of one of my pictures.) (NEX-7 and SEL 18-55 zoom)
Prior to setting off to France the previous weekend we visited westernmost Oxfordshire and Kelmscott Manor, the former home of William Morris. The last picture is a view of the Manor skyline.

<a title="Kelmscott skyline by Howard Stanbury, on Flickr" href=" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5483/14248910867_a060e38018_c.jpg" alt="Kelmscott skyline" width="800" height="448" />

NEX-7 and Sigma E 30/2.8
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
