tmorgan
Hi, this is an FYI of interest only to Mac users with the Sony A900.

The recent Apple Camera Raw Update 2.3 adds support for A900 raw files to Mac OS X and related Apple programs (Aperture, iPhoto, the OS itself). *however* this update *does not* support the cRaw format.

Something like this happened before, when Apple Camera Raw Update 2.2 broke support for A700 cRaw files. The circumvention in that case was to down level to Apple Camera Raw Update 2.1 (see TS2355).

That circumvention won't work for the A900, since Apple Camera Raw Update 2.1 doesn't know about the A900 model at all.

The only viable circumventions for the A900 cRaw format at this point in time are:

Don't use cRaw; use only the uncompressed Raw format, which works fine with Apple Camera Raw Update 2.3
If you have some cRaw files from the A900 that you really need to process with the Apple programs, process the cRaw files with the current Adobe DNG Converter (the one that ships with Adobe Camera Raw 5.1) and use the resulting DNG files.

...Tom M
