Google Wein Safe Sync

In any case, if you are talking about the adapter that is readily available from eBay, I've been using this for the last two years with no trouble. I'm using it for my radio trigger with my studio strobes, so voltage is not a problem. Just to echo what Phil said, some of the flashes can produce a high voltage and damage the hot shoe circuit. Anything under 4 volts (I think) is safe, but you might want to check on that.

Hello,

Way back when Minolta introduced this flash shoe design, they also sold two converters for those of us feeling the way you are right now:

one to go from classic to the Maxxum mount; and

one to go from Maxxum to classic.

They're still out there, new or used if you look around. If you check out www.9000.org, I believe the site lists the model numbers.

Chris,

What is your SPECIFIC flash make and model?

Jeff, http://www.9000.org/ has flash accessories listed as:

Minolta Adapter FS-1100 Flash Shoe

This adapter gives you the ability to use OLD flash equipment, meaning x000-era flashes, with NEW cameras. The AF illuminator will not function and you will get no "exposure OK" indication in the viewfinder (the indicator on the flash will work however). Autozoom on the 4000AF will work, and TTL will work with all flashes. On 800si and up, rear curtain sync will work with old flashes.

Some retailers, mainly large US and UK mail order companies, have their own alternatives to the FS adapters. They will work perfectly as Minolta original ones.

By the way, the rest of the page addresses your own question and my answer about tripple connector and such for multiple TTL OTF camera controlled flashes at once - see thread:

Does anyone have a reason to believe that the NEW Sony adapter below will not work well with ANY Konica Minolta Sony Alpha/Dymax/Maxxum SLR and "standard" flashes:

<p>Most Sony hot shoe adapters on the internet and ebay do not have safe sync protection, even though they fit the Sony cameras and many look like the Minolta FS-1100. (The FS-1100 was not a safe sync.) They will work with a flash sync radio transmitter. Check out <a href="http://www.safe-sync.com">www.safe-sync.com</a> They have working safe syncs, and no batteries to change, and are made for the Sony DSLR.</p>
