james_frater
I am not sure if anyone posted this review, but Steves Digicams has posted what I think is the best review so far. One thing I have noticed is that it is more KM than Sony in design and user interface. which I think is great for starters. http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/alpha100.html
james_bocchino
One thing that seems to be missing is a PC outlet for studio flash. If so, that would not make this camera geared towards the advanced photographer. Maybe on the next Sony model. A vertical grip would be nice, too. james_frater
I am sure there is a hot shoe attachment for a flash sync cable avialable for Minolta. Another solution slave units that will trigger with the on-camera flash. Always work arounds.
michael_hohner
The PC adaptor is named PCT-100. However, it's unclear if it work with the A-100.
You can NOT trigger the studio flash with the camera's built-in flash. The metering pre-flash of the camera would trigger the studio flash prematurely, before the mirror is up and the shutter is open. The A-100 also doesn't have a manual flash option for the built-in flash, which would inhibit the pre-flash.
._._z
From the reviews I've read, the two main idiosyncrasies appear to be slower-than- the-competition autofocus and (typical CCD) noise at ISO 400 and above. Noise will probably be addressed in future cameras, including a possible switch to a CMOS sensor chip. But the autofocus is a real issue, since fovus motors built into lenses have a real advantage over lenses dependent on focusing motors in the camera body. Nikon was able to keep backward compatability while offering newer lenses with ultrasonic motors in them, and I think Sony will have to make a serious, similar effort to win over advanced amateurs and pros. Brian
The Steves review is good but kind of inconclusive (in fact Steve refuses to give any conclusion). Look at the piece on Trusted Reviews. The guy there is a bit more definite, in fact he likes it a lot and thinks it will trouble the Canon 30D.
