james_frater
I picked up I am pretty sure the older version of the Minolta maxxum 50mm 1.7 lense off ebay for $90 Aussie dollars. Previous owner who is a 'pro' told me the glass and lense is perfect. I know the 50mm is stock standard, but how good is the glass. Maybe 1985 version, but maybe the later release. I can find info on the web, but nothing giving me results.
andrew robertson
Almost any 50mm lens made after, say, 1950 will be top rate.
michael_madio
Although I don't about that specific lens, the 50mm regular lenses between f/1.4 and f/1.8 are generally quite good as the optical formula is relatively simple and easy to mass produce. As long as the coating is intact and there is no fungus or fogging, it should perform quite well.
machts gut
I had the 1.7/50 AF for some years and only sold it in favour of the 1.4, which is slightly better. In terms of sharpness and contrast the 1.7 is an excellent lens. I only found the bokeh very harsh. The bokeh of the 1.4 is just wonderful. There is no difference in the optical formula between the older and newer version of the 1.7, maybe the older version is even better considering the mechanical quality. You have got a very good lens! Enjoy the work with it! Stefan
