Hi, I just saw this lens being offered in one local camera store for a

price of about $180, which I think is a very nice price indeed, but

I know nothing about the lens quality-wise (though I doubt it isn't

good). Has anyone used it? Or know about it? Is it sharp? Does it

suffer from barrel distortion? Or should I forget it now that film is

dying? (Sorry, couldn't help myself :) ). I want to use it for

landscape photography when I travel, and I think it would be a good

alternative to carrying around two three other fixed focal length

lenses. Thanks

Used this for years, it is a very good lens. Yes as all Wide angle zoom goes, it suffer from distortion but not excessive, normal as per like lens. It is sharp but not high in accutance as the 24-50/4.0. Resolve quite well, advised to use it with 5.6 or slower for better performance .

If you coupled the lens with a fast standard, you have a good travel setup.

Very nice lens. Best of it: It is very compact; 55mm filter and very short. On my sample (years ago, in my MD-times) the zooming was somehow stiff, but the zoom ring had some play. But it was only the (plastic) zoom ring, not the internal zoom mechanism, which was perfectly.

Optical, sharpness is very good, but not outstanding. But it has very low chromatic abberations (unusual for a wide angle zoom) and -once stopped down a little bit- very even imaging characteristics over the whole frame. So, colour- and contrast-wise, pictures with this lens really stand out.
