drachir
I'm coming back on this one: as the camera/lens were given me I'm OK about delving inside if it is worthwhile. It's an AF f/1.7 50mm and as far as I can tell by looking through the back in various lighting conditions the aperture is not closing at all. I read elsewhere on this forum that it is to do with a ?capacitor? in the lens not charging up and therefore not allowing the lens to stop down. If I can get at it and replace it maybe I can get the lens working again? Has anyone tackled this - succesfully or not! As various posters have said, it's not worth paying to have it done. bjmarkowitz
the 50 1.7 is about 50 bucks on E-bay...why play around with fixing unless you are really into trying to fix things,
demetri_p.
Capacitors live in your camera and not in your lens. Check first to see if other lenses work with your camera, then it's the lens. If so, it's probably oil on the aperture blades. You'll need to remove the rear elements and attempt to clean off the blades with an appropriate solvent. You could easily ruin or scratch the lens. I would only do it for the educational value otherwise it's probably not worth your time.
scott_lewis3
I love my 50mm 1.7 but wouldnt bother fixing it if some thing went wrong. You can get them as cheap as 35.00 but are normaly around the 50.oo
